I am really making an effort to maintain healthy or "clean" eating most days out of the week. But every now and then I find myself with deep rooted cravings that I just can't seem to shake. I have a connection to food in a way that is almost unbelievable. I do not eat simply to live, I eat as a form of celebration and overall enjoyment. In my family, food has always been the epicenter of our bond. It didn't have to be a grand event with 3 million courses, but it always brought us together and kept us filled with more than what was in front of us. It also filled us with love.

I love to cook. I love to create something that more than I can just enjoy. But nothing in my life can feel like a chore other than doing chores. I feel this way when I think about fitness and healthy eating. I don't want to regulate what I am eating so harshly to the point where I am no longer enjoying a piece of my life.

Lately I have been craving crispy fried chicken wings. So I decided to make a "healthy" version that wasn't fried. I haven't written any recipes for you in months but I tend to post a lot of my food moments in my IG stories. I didn't take staged photos for this post, so I don't have any plated pictures but let's just say that I probably will never need to deep fry chicken in cooking oil ever again. The Sriracha-honey sauce was a fire combo of spicy and sweet.

The Recipe

Ingredients:

Chicken wings

3.5 Table Spoons of Baking powder (aluminum free preferred)

1 TB of kosher/ sea salt

1 TB of cayenne pepper

1 TB of paprika

1 TB of black pepper

1 TB of garlic powder

You will also need foil, a cooking rack, and a cookie pan.

Prep:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Rinse your chicken wings with cold water. Pat "completely" dry and place into a medium/ large mixing bowl.

  2. Combine all of the seasonings with the baking powder and mix together with a whisk. Sprinkle the mixture over the chicken and hand toss until every wing is completely coated.

  3. Line your cookie sheet with foil and place the cooking rack on top of it. Place each chicken wing on the cooking rack. None of the wings should overlap, or be touching each other.

Cook:

  1. Please the chicken wings on the cooking rack in the oven and cook for 20 minutes. Flip the wings over and cook for another 20 minutes. Flip one more time and let the wings cook for another 15 minutes.

  2. Remove from oven and let them cool.

Sauce:

Combine sriracha sauce, honey, and rice vinegar.
