Nom Noms with Friends

I always imagined that I would host food related events once I moved out of my mom's house and got a place of my own. Here I am, back home from college close to a decade and living on my own (again) for the last 6 years and I have had all of two get-togethers at my house with the exception of Thanksgiving.
Two.
2.

I don't know what is so hard about getting together with a group of friends and doing the things that our parents and families used to do. Growing up, there was always a party at some family member's house. One of my aunties would be in the kitchen, the adults would be in the living room dancing, drinking, and playing dominoes; and all of the kids would be outside playing doorbell ditch. This is what I come from, so how was it so easy for me to lose sight of what is really important: fellowship and spreading love through food? I am quick to go on vacation, quick to head to a bar to meet friends, quick to visit a winery. I freely spend ridiculous amounts of money just to hang out with my friends when that's not what it is really about.

With age and time, I realized how important it is to spend time with the people that I care about. Recently, a group of friends and I have begun to have potluck style dinners at each other's houses. There is plenty of food, plenty of wine, and plenty of love. Saturday was my turn to host and it was nothing short of amazing. MY FRIENDS CAN COOK. They mean business in the kitchen and they play no games. We laughed, we listened to music, we drank, and most importantly, we poured into each other. I am thankful for them and eternally grateful that I have been blessed with friends turned family. So this post is for Bunny, James, D'Jon, & William. I love you. I'm sad that I didn't get to take a group photo of us, but next time it's on!

Stay tuned for the summer Fish Fry. It's really happening. LOL.
