The greatest forms of self expression are projected through art, music, and fashion. It often tells us where we have been, and where we are going. I recently watched the Fresh Dressed documentary on Netflix and it brought back so many feelings for me and my love for clothing. Fashion in the 2000's was everything that I like about fashion. It was bright, it was sparkly, it was over-sized, it was tacky, and I loved it. I was just entering high school and really finding my own autonomy as a teen, especially when it came to what I wore. I became very particular about the brands I wore and the way that I looked. I wanted to feel like I was THAT GIRL. Hell, nobody could tell me that I wasn't.
This jacket and hat are vintage WILSONS Leather from the aforementioned fashion era. Yes, you read that correctly. WILSONS. Once upon a time, they carried some of the flyest leather pieces. My mom loved that store and she copped this jacket with the matching hat in both yellow AND red for the culture, to which I have inherited. Its has yellow fur trim around the sleeves, hood, and hat...very reminiscent of Cam'ron's (Killa!) pink debut at the 2003 Baby Phat Fashion Show. An iconic moment in fashion.
Jacket and Hat - Wilsons Leather (vintage)
